Kids all want to go to Disneyworld.

It’s been that way when we were young, and it’s still that way for kids born after us.

In fact, you could definitely call that a tale as old as time.

You’ll notice I dropped a Beauty And The Beast reference there. It’s because of this adorable little girl visiting Disney World dressed as Belle.

She came dressed as Belle, with the blue dress and everything.

The performers at Disneyworld have their work cut out for them.

A lot is expected of them.

They’re expected to really make the guests believe that they’re the real deal.

So when you’re one of the performers there, like this Gaston, it’s absolutely crucial you nail the character.

When at Disney World, the magic has to be there.

It’s what the guests are paying for, and it’s what keeps the brand going.

This is especially true for young guests whose childhoods are being made as we speak.

So when little Belle met Disney World’s Gaston, it was only natural that the parents filmed it.

Being able to go to a theme park is already a step above a provincial life, after all.

And there he is, Gaston.

Every guy wants to be him.

No doubt this performer had to stay in shape as much as stay in character.

As a specimen, this performer is indeed a bit intimidating.
But little Belle, whose real name is Lane, isn’t intimidated one bit.

In fact, this is the reason she came here.

But what does she have for him? It’s a book – her gift to him. Kinda strange since Gaston isn’t exactly someone who reads.

In Victoria, Canada, members of the Saanich Police Department decided to take a unique approach to community outreach one May.

This idea quickly took shape as twenty-one officers joined forces with 100 students from Spectrum Community School’s dance program to create an unforgettable flash mob performance.

The song of choice for this lively event? None other than Bruno Mars’ hit, “Uptown Funk.”

The aim of this initiative, according to a press release from the Saanich Police Department, was to “create a special relationship between students and police.”

The event allowed officers and students to engage in a fun and light-hearted way, laughing and working together toward the shared goal of performing in public.

To prepare for the flash mob, the officers attended dance classes alongside the students, practicing in their own time.
Spectrum Community School’s dance teacher, Lia Shannon, played a pivotal role in the preparation, choreographing the routine and guiding both the students and the officers through the steps.

Her efforts were later recognized when she was awarded the Chief Constable’s Citizenship Award.

Reflecting on the recognition, Shannon told Victoria News,

“It was truly such a surprise, I had no idea that award existed even. I was so honoured and delighted to receive it.”

The dance routine was professionally recorded by Roll Focus Productions and has since garnered tons of views on YouTube.
This success shows the hard work and dedication of all involved, particularly given the short timeline they had to prepare.

Shannon revealed that the entire routine was put together in just four days, with her dancers practicing diligently throughout that period to perfect their moves.

On the day of the event, May 4th, the performance began with Shannon’s advanced dancers initiating the routine.
As the crowd watched, the remaining dancers joined in, followed by the officers, who initially acted as if they were just part of the onlookers.

This element of surprise captivated the audience and added an extra layer of excitement to the performance.

“My advanced dancers start it and then I had the rest of my dancers come in, so I had about 100 dancers, and then the police are acting like, what’s going on. And then they come in and that’s when they surprise the crowd,” Shannon explained.

Interestingly, the idea for the flash mob didn’t originate with Shannon; it was actually proposed by Niki Sundher, a member of the Saanich Police’s community engagement division

Sharaine, with a voice filled with warmth, says, “Every time the kids see Paul, their faces light up. They rush to him, arms wide open, as if greeting their very own grandfather. For us, Paul has transcended the title of ‘neighbor.’ He’s truly family.”

Moving to a new neighborhood always comes with its set of uncertainties.
The Caraballo family was no exception.

Sharaine reminisces, “We were stepping into unfamiliar territory. With our lively kids and being the only Black family here, we were anxious about how we’d be perceived and if we’d be welcomed.”

But the universe has its way of sending angels when you least expect it.
Enter Paul Callahan.

A seasoned handyman, Paul was the first to extend a hand of friendship.

With a ladder in tow and a heart full of goodwill, he offered invaluable advice and assistance to help the Caraballos settle into their new home.

As days turned into weeks, the family learned of Paul’s heart-wrenching loss.
His life partner, his beloved wife, had recently passed away.

Sensing his loneliness, the Caraballos made it their mission to envelop him in warmth, love, and the joyous chaos that comes with a big family.

Today, Paul’s laughter echoes in the Caraballo household as frequently as any family member’s.
He’s become the children’s favorite storyteller, weaving tales from his younger days, imparting lessons, and sharing nuggets of wisdom.

His stories, filled with life lessons and humor, have become a cherished part of their daily routine.
