You know what they say: a healthy mind in a healthy body. And this true for everyone, regardless of their age and lifestyle.
Especially when we’re talking about kids, it’s crucial that they do some kind of physical activity in order to have a healthy development of the body, as well as it’s a great way to socialize and learn to act as a part of a pair or a group.
Children usually pick modern dances, but there is a type of dance that is getting all the more popular among the youth: shag.
What started off as a not-so-classy or traditional dance, is now becoming attractive to young kids and teens who want to try this old-fashioned but at the same time beautiful and exciting kind of dance.
The dancers that participate in that contest are the best of the best, and the junior division is no exception.
Sadly, last year the National Shag Dance Championship was cancelled due to Covid, but thankfully, this year the shag aficionados had the chance to dance and watch others dance their favorite dance.
This year, the champions of this division were two amazing kids, a 6th and 7th grader, who showed the judges and the audience that they are here to stay!
Graylen Kirby and her partner Easton Brown appeared on stage when their names were announced.
The two kids dance to the sounds of Danny’s All-Star Joint by Rickie Lee Jones.
When the song starts, nobody knows what to expect. The young pair looks cool, but they don’t look like they are confident enough to win this thing.
The boy, who looks almost like he doesn’t really care about what’s going on around him, has really got the moves.
As for his tall partner, the girl sure knows what she’s doing. Not only are her moves perfectly flawless, but she also has a smile on her face the whole time, which is telling of how much she enjoys the dance.
The dancing duo stole the show with their amazing synchronization and their fantastic energy. Everyone loved their performace, and this is why they won first place.
Head over to the video below to watch the young dancers’ performance that gave them the title “champions”.
